It is amazing how new concepts are shaping the today and future of the fast progressing world we are living in. After bringing a revolutionary idea of bringing VoIP to cellphones today I received an email from Republic Wireless to get hold of a free international number.

Republic Wireless call this a world Wi-Fi number. World Wi-Fi number is a secondary number that will be assigned to your primary domestic number and the republic wireless number. Anyone would be able to call you from any country for very cheap prices (sometime in future)

As soon as I got this, I had a question for myself. Why do I need it? Here is whatI found:

I am from India and most of my family and friends are in India. This will help me in 2 ways:
1) All my friends and family can call me for a very cheap price as Republic Wireless has offered all carriers in the world a very cheap way to pass their traffic directly to them instead of paying heavy fees to other carriers to route the call internationally.
2) I frequently go back to India to meet family and for business. While I am there the same Republic Wireless phone with the world Wi-Fi number will work anywhere where there is a wifi. India is very advanced now, even in my village (Mohtli) there are many wifi networks available. This empowers all my clients, office, friends in USA reach me directly without a need of international calling enabled on their phone.

I went ahead and booked the number of my choice for free. I even went ahead and reserved a number for my wife ( even when she is not registered with them, I think they are very generous to allow anyone). Here is the link http://worldwifi.republicwireless.com

Now I am waiting for 2012 when they will make this number available and functional. Once the feature is ready Republic Wireless will be back in touch and will let me know how to link the World Wi-Fi number with the Republic phone and my primary domestic number.

I am excited to use this new feature and technology and wish the very best to Republic Wireless.

I like innovation!
-Rohit

Lots of attempts have been made but none has made a huge impact. But it seems this time the story is different as couples of companies are getting together with Google to tear it apart. The sector is none other than what is watched 5 hours on average per day by every American and more than 4 billion people watch it across the world, THE TV.

So that got us thinking…what if we helped people experience the best of TV and the best of the web in one seamless experience? Imagine turning on the TV and getting all the channels and shows you normally watch and all of the websites you browse all day — including your favorite video, music and photo sites. We’re excited to announce that we’ve done just that. -GOOGLE BLOG

Google TV (http://www.google.com/tv/) combines TV with internet With Google TV more than just watching TV you can have photo slideshow, gaming console, music player and lot more. Search the program, navigate to the channel/website/app and watch it. Google is working with Sony and Logitech on this.

The recent announcement has very well portrayed that the customers want to have a touch and feel of things before they would buy it online. Even in the high tech world people would like to see how the phone looks and works before they will end up ordering it. Even if there are thousands of videos to show how good NexusOne looks or work the customer will still want to try it before buying.

What I have learnt from this is that “Personal touch still matters!”. Even in this high tech world nothing can replace the need of touch, see and feel anything before buying. Surely I buy books online directly without even looking at it in the store. But for things like clothes everybody would really like to feel and see how it looks on him. For all electronics, nobody would love to buy anything before playing with it at a store. As I am planning to buy an iPad hence I went to an Apple store and played with it for almost 30 minutes. Now I am all set, I will order it online anytime I feel yes I should go ahead!

The phone other that iphone 4 I am anxiously watching is HTC Evo 4G from Sprint.

iPhone 4 is what I am waiting for almost since last year. I am really sold to apple stuff even if everything is priced ridiculously. But ever since the Gizmodo iPhone4 revelations I am more excited to grab one as soon as it hits the market in next 2 months (speculations are that it will released sometime in July). I was very excited today to get more details about the new upcoming phone by a Vietnamese website.

The Vietnamese website TAOVIET has published a series of photograph and a video with all the new details. They have even teardown the hardware and shown everything inside out. The best revelation of all is that this phone uses the same processor APL0398 being used by the iPad, so you can imagine the performance of this machine. The other interesting feature is that the new design is screw less.

At this very same moment I also came to know about the EVO a 4G phone from HTC with Sprint. I looks awesome.

I jailbroke it using redsn0w-0.9.4(windows). There is a trick at this step while start cracking firmware 3.1.3, you need to point 3.1.2(iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw) firmware path to break 3.1.3(iPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw) while selecting firmware on first screen of redsn0w. This works just perfectly.
STEP 1: Jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.3 using redsn0w, and make sure you select ‘Cydia’ it needs to be therein for installing some utilities to determine, upgrade/downgrade and unlock purposes later.
STEP 2: Install Cydia/Terminal in your iPhone and check version of your baseband firmware, you need to use BBUpdateExtreme for this. It is a bit techie but prefect utility for checking baseband version, it showed different but correct info to me than other options I tried. It involves quite a long procedure so please refer to iPhoneHeat for this. You are lucky if it shows ICE2_BOOT_05.08_G2M3B2 to you, as it’ll increase your chances for unlocking your iPhone 3G to almost sure.
STEP 3: Now go to Cydia on your iPhone and Search for Fuzzyband and then install this application. Start fuzzyband and hit downgrade button to make your bootloader compatible for unlock/ultrasn0w. You are lucky if you see successfully downgraded message.
STEP 4: Almost done, now quickly install ultrasn0w and run it……………………DONE!

My iPhone was a locked one with 3.1.3 upgrade.
STEP 1: Jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.3 using redsn0w, and make sure you select ‘Cydia‘ it needs to be therein for installing some utilities to determine, upgrade/downgrade and unlock purposes later.
STEP 4: Almost done, now quickly install ultrasn0w and run it……………………DONE!Get to know the crack as soon as my friend posts it!

Tiles that are different not 4X4 or 4X6

Until last year the Smartphone were only meant for business and corporate world. But now the market has dramatically changed with more and more people going for Smartphone and especially the teenagers. With the social networking, Web 2.0 and availability of internet Smartphone are no more a luxury but a necessity for anyone who is hooked on to the internet. Recently I met a school going son of my friend and he was carrying a android and is online all the time on various social networks.

Windows Phone 7 is a huge leap in the Microsoft strategy that will bring it in direct competition with Apple and Google. Right now Microsoft is publicly previewing Windows Phone 7 for the first time at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This OS for the windows phones will be available for consumption sometime later this year.

With the Microsoft coming into this field armored with phone 7 surely it seems to give hard time to iphone and google as this will bring all these feature to already strong business friendly windows mobile. I have extensively used windows mobile loaded HTC phones and I am a great fan of these as these really are true business phones unlike iphone or androids. With the Phone 7 coming laced with all those feature it is going to be a kill for sure. The key are where Microsoft needs to think is how to develop an application market before the launch of the OS where anyone can create and post the apps to be used by others. This will make it a perfect replacement of PC that you can carry in your pocket.

I spent some time on Microsoft Windows Phone 7 and here are my first impressions:

It is a complete break from whatever Microsoft had in the past for mobiles. It is a fresh out-of-box thinking. It is not an AVATAR but a all new from scratch as it seems that Microsoft is going to kill the Windows mobile in coming time. It seems Windows Mobile is all dead now!

The interface is all new. It is like a concept of tiles/grids. The font is nice and big. Something very different from all phones in the market today. The design is much similar to the Zune HD. You can easily zoom, pan, and flip from screen to screen.

Never lose your contacts even if you lose the phone. Phone & also provides ability to sync and backup all your contacts with multiple clouds like Windows Live, Exchange, MyPhone.

Sync rest of the things directly to your PC by connecting your phone to the PC. You can easily synch all your audios, videos.

The phone is seamlessly connected to get the latest updates for weather etc. The people hub is a nice place where you can see all the information gathered from facebook, Windows Live, twitter. But it certainly needs a hookup with other social apps too. It uses a concept of Live Tiles, if you want to be on the top of updates from someone special make him/her a tile on your screen. You will get all the updates on a real-time and that too seamlessly. You can also create a tile to your own profile and post to it directly from your phone screen.

Like ipod in iphone, now zune will be for the phone!

Using the hub you can share all your photos and videos with social networks. The latest photos uploaded by all of your contacts will also be loaded seamlessly on the hub.

You can scroll, zoom the photos with a touch.

Xbox on the phone has finally arrived! There is a tile named Xbox on the phone. This s a huge paradigm shift and a new standard in the industry where such state of the art games can be played on your phone. Let’s wait and watch what is on the plate!

As usual you can browse with internet explorer and outlook is there for your emails.

The best feature of Windows phone I like is the support for OneNote, my favorite mobile and desktop application. It is the best application in the market that makes your office work so easy to manage and handle. For sure it is there and you can try it.

Bings Maps will come as a default map option.

If you want to search search with Bing!

Purchase and download apps at Marketplace hub.

Connect to Microsoft Office, SharePoint Workspace, and OneNote using the Office hub. This will be wonderful application for all Corporate/Business users.

At Mobile World Congress 2010, in Barcelona, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said “In a crowded market filled with phones that look the same and do the same things, I challenged the team to deliver a different kind of mobile experience….Windows Phone 7 Series marks a turning point toward phones that truly reflect the speed of people’s lives and their need to connect to other people and all kinds of seamless experiences,”.

Let’s wait and watch if Microsoft can do something different here and change the feedback into implementation and come out with a winning OS.

Forget about all those 50$ plus or 10$ monthly recurring charge navigation apps for your iphone. For last many months I was in a fix to either buy a new GPS device for my car or to buy some android phone in order to run Google Navigation. Being a iphone fan it was not an easy decision to choose out from the available options and especially to switch to an android for Google navigation. I finalized a quite a good number of gps devices like “TomTom GO 740 Live”, “Garmin Nuvi 1690″ and “TomTom XL 340 S”.

Finally I got a very nice app that was just 0.99$ and seemed to be brilliant. I wrote to the app company with some questions and they were very quick to respond back. I finally moved ahead and bought this app and in just few moments the app was on my iphone. It was very quick and easy to install and start.

I was in my office and I entered a rough address of the hotel where I was staying. It was quick in finding the exact location from the cloud and suggested me a route. This app is known by the name of MotionX gps drive by Fullpower. It has a wonderful features and usability. I have been using this app for almost 1 month and it rocks. I never had any issues using the application and the response time is also wonderful. Following are some of the key features:

MotionX uses Familiar search: Just type and search, find anything, anywhere and then just follow the directions while Driving or Walking.

Optimized Compass for situational awareness If you don’t have a 3GS yet, the compass also works with GPS motion sensing on the iPhone 3G.

Pre-Load the maps by simulating the route before starting.

Automatically stores the recent and most used destinations. You can also save your favorite destinations

Landscape View helps while driving

Swipe between Position, Navigation, and List screens for easier access while navigating

Connected Service The app downloads the Navteq maps on the fly and also uses online search instead of stored points of interest. MotionX has a decent online search—the first in this class that I’ve seen powered by Microsoft’s Bing.

Fully Integrated with iPhone

Address book integration: Find an entry in your iPhone contacts list, and MotionX will get you there.

iPod integration: Access playlists and listen to your music, audiobooks, and podcasts while using MotionX.

Phone integration: Place a phone call directly from search results.

MotionX even comes with a full free 30 day Live Voice Guidance package. which can be extended at a monthly charge of 3$. Live Voice Guidance gives access to:

Live over-the-air maps and routing.

MotionX 3D geospatial maps.

Cached routes and maps for optimal performance.

Simulation mode: See how to get there you before you go.

Voice guidance, fully integrated with the iPod. Just drive and go.

Some screen shots:

I also found a very nice quick start guide that is of a great help. So do refer to it.

Source: MotionX by Fullpower

It also comes with a wonderful tutorial and manual.

Awaited Features:

Live traffic view

In case of traffic congestion option to choose multiple routes.

Voice activated commands

In order to buy this app just go to the itunes store and search for gps and you will find this app as the most famous and most downloaded gps app in the store. You can also follow this link to iTunes store

Google has launched its latest in social networking Google Buzz. This puts Google in direct competition with the top shots like Twitter.

Our belief is that organizing the social information on the web — finding relevance in the noise — has become a large-scale challenge, one that Google’s experience in organizing information can help solve. We’ve recently launched innovations like real-time search and Social Search, and today we’re taking another big step with the introduction of a new product, Google Buzz.

From Google Blog

Now the million dollar question that arises is, will it really buzz? I don’t have the answer as I am still waiting for my account to be activated with buzz. But I tried it on my iphone and was not too impressive. Will use it more and comment again here! Will appreciate your comments.
