My iPhone was a locked one with 3.1.3 upgrade. I jailbroke it using redsn0w-0.9.4(windows). There is a trick at this step while start cracking firmware 3.1.3, you need to point 3.1.2(iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw) firmware path to break 3.1.3(iPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw) while selecting firmware on first screen of redsn0w. This works just perfectly.

The Future of Creative Advertisement

It was beyond my imagination to understand the new wave of advertisement that is taking shape right now. I have never thought how social media can be used in the media ads. This was clearly evident as I surfed the following two state of the technology ads:

Harley davidson

Both of these adds almost like websites with interactive video, games, photo and gallery. At the very same time these were seamlessly integrated with twitter and facebook. The huge number of hits that these ads gathered is evident of the fact that a revolution in the field of marketing is going to take place soon as the technologies are more available to achieve the same now.

I read this exiting story at google blog by Neal Mohan, Vice President of Product Management.

Database Migration from Postgres to SQL Server or any other DB to SQL Server

Upgrade to SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 7.0

In order to migrate a database from POSTGRES to MS SQL Server use a very powerful set of tools called Data Transformation Services (DTS). These tools can help you perform these tasks in Microsoft SQL Server 2000. DTS can help you import, export, and/or transform data from various sources to single or multiple locations. Please refer to a very good illustrative article for all details at TechRepublic.

In order to migrate data from postgres please install an ODBC driver for postgres so that the DTS can communicate with the postgres. Once this is done use import/export or copy database wizard available in MS SQL Server. Create a DTS job on your MS SQL Server and schedule it using dtsrun.

Upgrade to SQL Server 2005

If you are migrating to SQL Server 2005 you can use Import/Export wizard provided by Integration Services package (SSIS) or even the Data Transformation Services (DTS).

In order to use SSIS you need to have SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio installed. A very nice tutorial that illustrates how to use the import/export on SSIS is available at Database Journal written by Gregory A. Larsen

If you are confused between DTS and SSIS please refer to a very good discussion on Simple Talk. Laso refer to MSDN for better details.

Address already in use: NET_Bind, ORBX0390E on WAS

On WebSphere Application Server (WAS) if you are getting a similar error

ORBX0390E: Cannot create listener thread. Exception=[ > java.net.BindException: Address already in use: NET_Bind ].

The port to be used by the WAS is being used by some other service. Please check which application is using the port and kill the process or restart your machine.

Unlock iPhone 3.1.3, baseband 5.08.01

My iPhone was a locked one with 3.1.3 upgrade. I jailbroke it using redsn0w-0.9.4(windows). There is a trick at this step while start cracking firmware 3.1.3, you need to point 3.1.2(iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw) firmware path to break 3.1.3(iPhone1,2_3.1.3_7E18_Restore.ipsw) while selecting firmware on first screen of redsn0w. This works just perfectly.
STEP 1: Jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.3 using redsn0w, and make sure you select ‘Cydia‘ it needs to be therein for installing some utilities to determine, upgrade/downgrade and unlock purposes later.
STEP 2: Install Cydia/Terminal in your iPhone and check version of your baseband firmware, you need to use BBUpdateExtreme for this. It is a bit techie but prefect utility for checking baseband version, it showed different but correct info to me than other options I tried. It involves quite a long procedure so please refer to iPhoneHeat for this. You are lucky if it shows ICE2_BOOT_05.08_G2M3B2 to you, as it’ll increase your chances for unlocking your iPhone 3G to almost sure.
STEP 3: Now go to Cydia on your iPhone and Search for Fuzzyband and then install this application. Start fuzzyband and hit downgrade button to make your bootloader compatible for unlock/ultrasn0w. You are lucky if you see successfully downgraded message.
STEP 4: Almost done, now quickly install ultrasn0w and run it……………………DONE!Get to know the crack as soon as my friend posts it!

IBM Websphere: Change config if machine name or network name changed

Recently you changed the machine name or network name and now you are facing problems with the IBM WebSphere. The behavior of the application server has turned weird as it does not stop when asked to stop from the console or the menu etc.

In order to fix this problem we can update the new name wither manually or from admin UI of IBM WebSphere.

MANUAL

  • Open the serverindex.xml in an editor. C:WS6AppServerprofilesdefaultconfigcellsLTL3AHM4MNode01CellnodesLTL3AHM4MNode01serverindex.xml (This path may be different on your machine)
  • Replace all the instances of the old computer name with the new name
  • Save

ADMIN UI

You can also do this from the Admin console of the server.

  • Go to Click Servers > Application servers > server1
  • Select Communication > Ports
  • Over here you will see the old host name in the Host column.
  • Click on every port name and change the host value to the new value.

Click Save when all Host values have been updated.

Personalized Google search becomes more personal

Today Google announced a new feature of STARS to give a better personalized search. This will help us to mark some results as favorite and we can get this on the top of the list whenever we search for the same thing again. It will be fantastic as lot of times I want to go back to the same old link that I goggled, but till now there was no way except bookmarks! Google will start rolling this out in coming days to all its users.

With stars, you can simply click the star marker on any search result or map and the next time you perform a search, that item will appear in a special list right at the top of your results when relevant.

How to Use WAS profiles to create multiple independent user configurations: IBM Websphere

How to Use WAS profiles to create multiple independent user configurations sharing the same install binaries. This is almost like having multiple servers.

Server: IBM Websphere Application Server 6.1

Tool Used: Use the Profile Management Tool

Note: WAS instances in version 5 are Profiles in v 6

In WAS 6 files are divided into 2 parts Product files and User Data. Hence in order to have multiple instances for different purposed we can have separate User Data sets and these are called as profiles in WAS 6.

By doing this you escape the need of installing multiple servers on the same machine and especially in development environment you can easily control which profile to start (saves lot of resources)

The command is in the following directory:

<was_root>/bin/pmt.sh on UNIX/LINUX

<was_root>binpmt.bat for WINDOIWS

Select “Application Server”

Click “Next”

Select “Advanced Profile Creation”

Don’t Deploy Default Application

Provide an appropriate Name and the default location of the profile

Select the option ” Create the server using development template” if you are not deploying this to a production server and for dev purpose else keep this unchecked.

Give a node name or keep it as it is

Change the Host name to the network name of the server if required

Don’t Select “Enable Administrative Security”

Change the port values as required. (Don’t forget to keep a copy of the port number assigned)

Unselect the “Run the application server process as window service” if you want to have a manual control on the server. As I am using this in development environment I don’t want my server to eat all resources on startup.

Skip this screen

Press “Create”

Select “Launch the first steps console” and verify the profile.
