What does Web 3.0 means to a technical resource?

After understanding what is Web 3.0 for any technical resource the next question is what to do next? I would suggest to start understanding the following technologies. I have listed most of the technologies being used (some in nascent stage) hence go ahead and start learning these:

RDF: (Resource Description Framework) RDF is the grammar used by the web.

OWL: (The Web Ontology Language) Grammar + Expression + Logic

SWRL: (Semantic Web Rule Language) Rules to the web language

SPARQL : Things like contact are described in microformats which can be done by using SPARQL (Protocol and RDF Query Language)

XRI (Extensible Resource Identifier) is the new URI

XDI (XRI Data Interchange) Standard for sharing, linking and synchronizing

XFN: (XHTML Friends Network ) HTML microformat that provides a simple way to represent human relationships using links.

API: (Application Programming Interface) Way to access data everywhere

OAUTH: Open standard for authentication the API

(Please let me know if I have missed any?)

Sprint Backlog

Sprint Backlog is a team document that is used to plan how the features will be implemented. In this document the team breaks the features into tasks. Normally these tasks are four to sixteen hours of work. If the task has an associated effort of more than 16 hrs it is broken down into a small task. The tasks are never assigned, the team member voluntarily choose the tasks as per the priority and their skills. The Sprint Backlog is owned by the team.

Planning must be done at the beginning of every sprint cycle.

Team selects items from the product backlog they can commit to completing

Sprint backlog is created by the entire team.

Tasks are identified and each is estimated (1-16 hours)

Collaboratively, not done alone by the ScrumMaster

An Eight hour limit applies to this meeting. During the 1st 4 hrs The Product owner and team prioritizes the product backlog and later only team plans the sprint and creates the Sprint Backlog.

Time limit: 8 hrs

Daily Scrum (Daily Standup) Meeting

Daily Scrum is more like a daily project status meeting which is very short and nothing other than the status can be discussed. The following are the key characteristics of Scrum.

Daily and starts precisely on time.

Daily Scrum must happen at same location and every working day at same time

Only Scrum Master and Team members can speak (anyone can join)

Not for problem solving (no discussions on reasons/approach etc.)

Everyone answers 3 questions and the Scrum Master documents this:

What have you done since yesterday?

What are you planning to do today?

Anything in the way (issues/concerns). The resolution cannot be discussed in the Scrum. It should be discussed after.

Time limit: 15-minutes

The Sprint Review Meeting

Outcome of the sprint is reviewed. What is completed and what is left.

A demo is provided of the completed work only.

Team and anyone from outside can participate (Open House)

Time limit: 4 hours.

Sprint Retrospective Meeting

This meeting is for identifying and implementing continuous process improvements

Two questions are asked:

What went well in the Sprint?

What could be improved in next Sprint?

The outcome is what to Start / Stop / Continue.

This is attended by team, ScrumMaster and Product Owner.

Time limit: 3 hrs

Why are we doing this?

In order to fix the out of memory issues we normally adjust our maximum heap size (-Xmx) but in addition to this we will also change the heapSize. The JVM uses heapSize to provide space to java apps to run while permSpace is an area to store data structures and class definition etc. For smaller projects just giving more space to run can fix the problem while for large projects which may contain thousand of class files will need large permSpace rather than the heapsize. In order to set the permSize use the option -XX:Permsixe.

Hence a better fix will be fixing both the heapSize and permSize as the first will give more space to the java apps to run hence a better performance and the later will give more space for data structures and class information in large projects

In order to migrate a database from POSTGRES to MS SQL Server use a very powerful set of tools called Data Transformation Services (DTS). These tools can help you perform these tasks in Microsoft SQL Server 2000. DTS can help you import, export, and/or transform data from various sources to single or multiple locations. Please refer to a very good illustrative article for all details at TechRepublic.

In order to migrate data from postgres please install an ODBC driver for postgres so that the DTS can communicate with the postgres. Once this is done use import/export or copy database wizard available in MS SQL Server. Create a DTS job on your MS SQL Server and schedule it using dtsrun.

Upgrade to SQL Server 2005

In order to use SSIS you need to have SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio installed. A very nice tutorial that illustrates how to use the import/export on SSIS is available at Database Journal written by Gregory A. Larsen

If you are confused between DTS and SSIS please refer to a very good discussion on Simple Talk. Laso refer to MSDN for better details.

Recently you changed the machine name or network name and now you are facing problems with the IBM WebSphere. The behavior of the application server has turned weird as it does not stop when asked to stop from the console or the menu etc.

In order to fix this problem we can update the new name wither manually or from admin UI of IBM WebSphere.

MANUAL

Open the serverindex.xml in an editor. C:\WS6\AppServer\profiles\default\config\cells\LTL3AHM4MNode01Cell\nodes\LTL3AHM4MNode01\serverindex.xml (This path may be different on your machine)

Replace all the instances of the old computer name with the new name

Save

ADMIN UI

You can also do this from the Admin console of the server.

Go to Click Servers > Application servers > server1

Select Communication > Ports

Over here you will see the old host name in the Host column.

Click on every port name and change the host value to the new value.

Click Save when all Host values have been updated.
