Netflix and Warner Bros. deal: They win we loose!

Online DVD rental pioneer Netflix Inc.  has reached a new deal with Warner Bros. As per the agreement Netflix will wait 28 days before offering any of the Warner Bros. new release DVDs to its customers.

The Winners are:

  • Warner Bros. Netflixgets discount on Warner Bros. titles
  • gets rights to stream many additional movies
  • gets many old movies/series that are currently not a part of their library.

Warner Bros.

  • As nearly 75% of the DVD sales are made in the first month of the release, this will ensure that Warner Bros. sell enough of DVDs.

Here we loose:

  • Wait for 28 days (most probably more as everyone cannot get it at the same time, limited copies) or go out and buy DVD
  • Watch a handful of old movies (similar to what is done by most renting companies in India as they all have a limited library and that too with more old titles)

What are you going to do now? Bear the frustration/ Move to someone else (Blockbuster etc.)

Planet’s First Democratic Mag. RememMe.com

I just got  a wonderful email about the launch of a new startup RememMe. The event will take place at the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world celebrates the commencement of the New Year. RememME.com is humble endeavor to bring together people from across the globe to share their exclusive thoughts, experiences and knowledge in the form of scoops under any of the following subject categories: Entrepreneurship, Business & Management, Science & Technology, World & Politics, Sports & Entertainment, Health & Lifestyle and My Life.

These scoops are then knocked and commented upon by this online community in a democratic way which collectively decides top three scoops from each category. The winning scoops are then published in a monthly RememME Mag, rightfully be Planet’s First Democratic Mag.

Look forward to see RememME.com in 2010. !!

Thanks to Amit Rawat Co-founder of NOMAD Publications Pvt.Ltd. for this wonderful idea. You can reach him at amit.rawat@rememme.com

New Year 2010

The new year 2010 will just not bring  a new year but also a new decade. It will also bring a start of surge in economy for the coming decade. The market is making a upward move and the things are settling down. Everything seems to be slowly and slowly coming back to the right pace. CNN Money reports according to the CareerBuilder 2010 Job Forecast, 20% of employers are planning to increase their number of permanent, full-time employees for New Years 2010.

This will also be a blue moon New Years Eve, there will be a partial eclipse.  The New Year’s Eve blue moon will be visible in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and Africa. For partygoers in Australia and Asia, the full moon does not show up until New Year’s Day, making January a blue moon month for them. However, the Eastern Hemisphere can celebrate with a partial lunar eclipse on New Year’s Eve when part of the moon enters the Earth’s shadow. The eclipse will not be visible in the Americas. To find out more about the blue moon New Years Eve and times for the partial eclipse, visit Fox News.

The countdown to the new year is also an interesting thing to watch for.
